NTRMRZ

During the entire process of constructing and conceptualising this magazine/book, there was a ‘placeholder’ text on the first page: a visual form that did not rely on meaningful content. We grew attached to this visual form and at this time the only utterances we feel supercede ‘Lorem Ipsum’ in relating to the contents of this publication are the following: reacting to the space of architecture. recontextualising orphaned objects. discovering trash and broken particles in their urban surroundings. capturing, melting, modifying and objectifying them by reconstructing them in new environments. Emphasizing their sculptural qualities. researching how they act as totems, objects stripped from their home, characterised by their past.

This publication departed from the results of workshops ‘imagining space + architecture’ given by Remco Roes at Hasselt University in 2017-2018. Claes and Roes have used these results as found refuse, attempting to relate them to the urban context of Berlin to create an autonomous artistic work which will subsequently be translated back into a didactic form. Intermerzz is a vehicle that questions the boundaries and interferences between individual artistic practice, collaboration, research and teaching.
